“Long ago, I had a chance to sit through early demos of Yamaha’s original YSP-1 soundbar, and since then, I’ve had some experience with succeeding models—but I’d forgotten what this amazing Digital Sound Projector technology is capable of. It sounded as if the 3.5- foot-wide YSP-5600 had stretched to 8 or 9 feet. In scenes with large open spaces, such as the immigration hall and the busy Brooklyn street crossings, the soundbar created a smooth, expansive panorama across the front wall. The rich dialogue was prominent and, even with the Irish brogues, highly intelligible. The music was very detailed and a pleasure to listen to, rather than being the high-pitched monstrosity it could have been, considering the nearly three-dozen 1.5-inch drivers producing it.
